Website information

Privacy policy

This policy explains how the ascdir website collects and uses information when you visit it. It applies to this website only, not to the ascdir command-line tool or third-party websites linked from it.

Who is responsible

Arata, the maintainer of ascdir, operates this website and is responsible for the processing described in this policy. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to [email protected].

Information we collect

The website does not offer user accounts and does not ask you to submit personal information. When the services below are enabled, limited technical and usage information may be collected automatically.

Google Analytics

With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic and improve the website. Google Analytics may collect information such as pages visited, approximate location, referral source, browser and device characteristics, and interactions with the website. It may use first-party cookies or similar identifiers for measurement. Google Analytics does not load unless you select Accept analytics.

Google explains how it processes information from sites using its services in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. You can also use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or your browser controls to limit cookies.

Your analytics choice

We store your analytics choice in your browser's local storage so the website can remember it. This preference is necessary to honor your choice, is not used for tracking, and remains until you change it or clear your browser storage. You can withdraw or grant consent at any time through Analytics preferences in the footer. Rejecting analytics does not limit any website feature.

When analytics is accepted, Google Analytics may set these first-party cookies:

Cookie expiration is measured from creation rather than extended on every visit. Browser privacy controls may shorten these periods.

Sentry

We use Sentry to detect errors and monitor website reliability. When an error occurs, Sentry may receive technical information such as the affected page, error details, browser and device characteristics, and network information. Performance tracing is disabled, and the website is configured not to send default personally identifiable information to Sentry.

For more information, see the Sentry privacy policy.

How we use information

We use collected information only to understand website usage, diagnose faults, protect the website, and improve its content and performance. We do not sell visitor information.

Legal bases

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, Google Analytics is used on the basis of your consent. You may withdraw that consent at any time. We use Sentry on the basis of our legitimate interest in maintaining the security, stability, and reliability of this website. We balance that interest by limiting collection, disabling performance tracing, and disabling default personally identifiable information.

Service providers and international transfers

Google and Sentry provide analytics and error-monitoring services to us. Depending on your location, information may be processed in the United States or other countries outside your own. Those transfers are handled in accordance with the providers' applicable contractual safeguards and privacy terms. We do not sell visitor information or provide it to data brokers.

Third-party websites

This website links to services including GitHub and external documentation. Those services process information under their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

Data retention

Analytics and diagnostic information is retained only for as long as needed to understand website usage and diagnose errors. The applicable retention periods are determined by the settings configured in Google Analytics and Sentry and by their respective policies. We review those settings when our operational needs or service-provider terms change.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of your personal information, and to object to certain processing. You may also withdraw analytics consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. Contact us to make a request. You may also lodge a complaint with the data protection authority responsible for your location.
